blue cheese allergy

Hi

Hi
Yeah, I have epic moon face. The steroid pulse continues.

Foods you like, despise, can’t eat (allergies, etc.)

I love Mexican food, flavorful curries, pumpkin, zucchini and chocolatechocolatechocolate. Dark is nicest. I’m trying to go paleo (cheese and sugar are a problem) and have gone entirely wheat free.

I hate lima beans, bad coffee and chewy gummy things that never seem to get chewed (like squid or gummy bears – yuck).

I can’t eat anything crunchy or sticky/chewy. I’m allergic to bananas, avocados, shellfish, and quinoa. I have sensitivities to wheat and legumes. Aspartame and saccharine give me migraines, as does lavender.

Coffee vs. tea? Do you have a favorite kind?

I have to drink decaf for health reasons (which sucks) but OMG I love coffee. And tea. Really nice coffee like Kona is my mana from heaven. Teas: I love fruity loose leaf teas and Tetley’s decaf. I dislike green teas, lemon teas (always seem to taste of bathroom cleaner), those herbal teas that taste of dust and Earl Grey.

Where do you live? (climate, big city/small town, etc.)

I live in a small town in Southern England but I’m originally from a medium sized city in Southern California. It’s been a moderate winter but at the moment we have a Russian cold front and damn, there are no cold fronts like Russian ones. Also, snow. Yay!

Crafty pursuits – knit, crochet, spin, sew, quilt, embroider, make friendship bracelets, any of these or others?

I knit. Not as much as I’d like though. I’ve been tiptoeing around quilting for a year and am very nearly ready to take the plunge. Almost. I think.

Favorite yarns / fabrics? Any yarn you want to try but haven’t yet?

Wool and cashmere. I’m allergic to lanolin (so no really sheepy wool), BFL, silk and hairy fibers like alpaca. I also can’t knit with plant fibers.

Favorite yarns: Madeline Tosh, Malabrigo (but not sock), Shelter and Socks That Rock. I dislike wildly variegated yarns and heathers, preferring clear toned (ie: not muddy looking) solids or semi-solids. I have a thing for heavy laceweight yarn at the moment.

Like to try: Madelinetosh Merino Light, Quince & Co. Chickadee, Loft…

Fabrics: Um… I love the Ghastlies fabric because I want to be Morticia Addams when I grow up but otherwise, simple, pretty prints that aren’t fussy or manic.

Hobbies/pursuits/proclivities/passions (other than the aforementioned crafty ones, obvs)

Photography. Film, especially. I have something of a film camera lust problem (I currently have 6) but it’s such a nice problem. I want an SX-70 and am trying my hardest to get ahold of as much Kodak Portra film as possible before it’s impossible to get anymore.

I also read. A lot. I’m recovering from a very bad foot fracture (Lisfranc + metatarsal) which required 4 months of elevation and non-weight bearing in a cast (and 6 months later I’m just getting off crutches) so last year I read 310 books. I hope to read way less this year but my book love remains strong.

What do you do in life? (job, career, school, family, etc.)

I’m a writer. I don’t work outside the home because I’m unwell – hence the steroid pulse (chronic illness SUCKS). I also make jewellery which I have been told is a bit too sparkly for everyday wear. I am not wholy convinced there is such a thing as too sparkly.

My husband is wonderful and has the patience of a saint. No kids and no pets. We hope to change the no pets at some point.

Describe your idea of a perfect day where you have no obligations….no work, no kids, no appointments. What would you do?

I’d go to the beach. Laguna if I could teleport to California or somewhere down in Cornwall. And I’d sit there. All day.

What makes you happy?

My husband. Chocolate. Good coffee, nice tea. Those books that utterly transport you or teach you something so powerful that you’re rocked to the core. Film photography and getting film back from the developer. Sunshine and fresh, clean water.
